Teeth Whitening Tips

Whether it is through celebrity magazines, television or in the movies, the public is constantly shown images of people with dazzling white smiles. For many of us, this is not a reality. Most people fall victim to stained or yellowed teeth over the years due to poor oral hygiene, or to certain foods and drinks that contain staining acids. Luckily nowadays with advancements in cosmetic dentistry, dentist offices like here at Affordable Dental Associates can now perform teeth whitening procedures and give anyone that winning Hollywood smile.

At Affordable Dental Associates we offer a teeth whitening procedure that can significantly whiten your teeth in just a few hours. Not only is our procedure painless for our patients, but it is affordable as well. Although teethwhitening will work to brighten your smile, it is not a permanent effect. Over time when you begin eating certain foods and drinks, or resuming the things that stained your teeth in the first place, the stains will come back. Here are some helpful tips you can use to prolong the whitening effects:
  • Brush your teeth immediately after consuming foods and drinks that can stain your teeth. These types of foods and drinks include: coffee, tea, beets, red wine, soy sauce, cranberry juice, tomato sauce, etc. If you must eat or drink these food items, use a straw or other utensil so that it does not come in direct contact with your front teeth.
  • Keep up with your oral hygiene. Remember to brush your teeth twice a day and floss. Try to use toothpaste that is enhanced with whitening power.
  • Don't smoke. Besides being an unhealthy habit, tobacco stains the teeth and is difficult to remove by brushing alone.
  • If you notice stains reappearing, you can go back for touch-ups or other whitening treatments 6 months after your first treatment. Although it is ok to get touch-ups it is important not to get carried away and over bleach your teeth with at-home kits or other products.
